about

Following hot on the heels of the release of their debut album 'Round Our Way', Burning Condors release their new single ‘Last Train Home’ and B-side ‘Gambling Hearts’ on Monday October 28th 2013.

The band’s hard hitting style has led to some music critics hailing them as leaders of a new guitar punk movement, with London Evening Standard music critic Rick Pearson, describing 'Round Our Way' as "The four-headed lovechild of the Sex Pistols and the Strokes; dirty, diabolical and downright brilliant." Recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, the album features performances by session legend Dave Roe (double bassist for Johnny Cash’s Tennessee Three), and Col JD Wilkes (Legendary Shack Shakers and Dirt Daubers).

Perhaps the most obvious example of the band's signature culture clash mix of gritty British indie and rootsy Americana, 'Last Train Home' sees the band embracing their Nashville surroundings whilst lyrically telling a tale closer to their London roots. The track also features a nod towards Britpop era Blur in its quirky backing vocal hooks. Opening with a traditional bluegrass banjo roll played on a distorted electric guitar and featuring slide guitar backed with a rollicking train beat, lyrically the song rubs against the frenetic music; finding the band in a heady romantic mood with a tale of being swept up in the moment of love.

B-side ‘Gambling Hearts’ was recorded at the iconic Sawmills Studios where Oasis recorded ‘Definitely Maybe’ and Muse recorded their first two EPs. With a distorted Dick Dale surf rock inspired tremolo picking guitar riff taking centre stage, backed up by Hammond keys part recorded in the famous Sawmills cave and featuring a harmony laden anthemic chorus, it sees the band experimenting with a more layered approach.

To celebrate the release of ‘Last Train Home’ the band will be giving away a free mp3 recording of their version of Country legend Red Foley's 1947 ho' down 'Never Trust a Woman' via their Bandcamp page. The track was recorded live in a single take during the band’s early Cowshed Studio sessions. The band will also be running a competition giving fans the chance to win an original canvas designed by bassist Churchy.

Burning Condors will tour Europe in March 2014 - dates to be announced shortly.

lyrics

'Gambling Hearts'

She’s late for the night games
Don’t know where she’s gone
I’m leaving for Vegas
Stepping out got my suede shoes on uh oh

This full house is tumbling down, down
Shut close my eyes
Pray there’s no sound

Ooohhh to be a gambling heart
Leave it for the gambling hearts

Wanted you to be there
But why should I wait
Always so reckless
Maybe true but you had no faith now these things

They say that go are coming around, around
Don’t know when to stop
Or even how it starts

Ooohhh to be a gambling heart
Leave it for the gambling hearts
Ooohhh The gambling hearts
Ooohhh they’ll never get what they want

No-one knows where they’re coming in from
No-one knows where they’re coming in from
No-one knows where they’re coming in from
How can you tell, when the game’s really won?

Ooohhh to be a gambling heart
Leave it for the gambling hearts
Ooohhh The gambling hearts
Ooohh leave it for the gambling hearts

Fresh on the Net described Burning Condors' debut single ‘Honey Trap’ as “...dirty in a good way...” whilst God is in the TV hailed “...a howling haunted victim of love no more”. Joyzine was equally impressed, describing Burning Condors' sound as using “...a modern art punk filter to come up with something fresh and new. Imagine Nick Cave sipping whiskey with John Spencer in a Hoxton dive bar.” ... more
